Reader Question : Why does shopping for car insurance in New Jersey have to be so difficult? I have a friend in Chicago and she does not have near the problems finding car insurance in Illinois, why is that? What can I do to get a lower rate on my car insurance premiums without sacrificing quality?
Brenda in Trenton NJ
Hey Brenda,
I feel your pain! I have many New Jersey readers who are fed up with the whole car insurance game that is happening in your state. There is a law on the books that is not well liked with the major insurance companies and will restrict the amount of profits they can make….and that is not good in their eyes. So, what you have is lack of competition among auto insurance carriers like you would in other states like Illinois.
What can you do to lower your NJ auto insurance? Raise your deductible is the fastest and easiest way to reduce your premiums. You only pay the deductible amount when the claim is paid by YOUR carrier, so carry the highest amount you legally can unless you are accident prone!
Ask for discounts! You never know until you ask, and it never hurts to ask for discounts like:
- Safe Driver – claim free for 7 years or more
- Good grade student drivers - great for teen car insurance and cheap teen car insurance
- Limited use vehicles – you only drive a short distance periodically and most of the time the vehicle sits in the garage
- Military – often military personnel are given discounts
- AARP or senior discounts
Where do you start looking for a quality NJ car insurance quote? I love this service and the quotes I got from them. It was free, easy to complete and I was not obligated to buy anything so if they could not reduce my current car insurance rate it was no big deal to me. It sure helped me locate what I feel is the cheapest car insurance in NJ and I hope it helps you find one too.
Here is a link to their online auto insurance quote application to help you reduce your car insurance premiums! Best of luck to you Brenda I know you can do it.
