Some Basic Golf  Tips

The other day my husband left a brochure on the counter for a new golf resort opening downtown. I found another product brochure today talking about golf clubs in Florida. Seems to me my husband is taking a new interest in golfing. Neither of us are avid golfers. Seems like a fun sport but one that requires a lot of expertise. I decided to brush up on my golfing knowledge so I could help support the new hobby. Here is what I found out:

* Understand the game well before you start to play.

* Avoid over swinging your clubs.

* Always get a good grip on your club. Where gloves to facilitate this process if necessary. Keep in mind a good grip contributes to good wrist movement and ultimately a good swing.

* The angle you approach the ball is as important as how hard you hit.

* You have to get a feel for golf by practicing as much as possible.

* Learn how to select the right club when making downhill or uphill shots.

* Find out the best way to play the wind so you can select a proper club in various weather environments.

* Learn how to read the green.

* Learn how the weather will affect your ball and the way you play on the field.

Of course, to maser all of these skills takes time and practice. The practicing is part of the fun of golf. I highly recommend newbie golfers get a mentor or coach to help them at least initially. My husband just signed up for a few lessons from a former PGA golfer. Hopefully this will help speed his journey toward becoming the golf master he dreams of being. As for me, I'll stick to researching the game at least for now.
